Social systems - types: solitary/semi-solitary, offspring live w/mother until old enough to fend for themselves, animals only come together to mate. Social systems - types: pair-living, one male, one female, and offspring, live together in same territory or home range. Social systems - types: single-male groups (or 1-male units): used to be called harems , 1 male with 2 or more females. Social systems - types: multi-male, multi-female groups, multiple adults of each sex. Social systems - types: social groups split into smaller feeding parties, multi-male, single female, 1 female with 2 or more males and offspring, example: marmosets and tamarins. Mating system: sometimes mating system is the same as social system, but not always, types, monogamy- 1 male mates with 1 female exclusively. Mating system: types, polyandry, polygyny- 1 male mates w/multiple females, but each female mates only w/that male. Mating systems: polygynandry- both males and females mate w/multiple members of the opposite sex, also called promiscuous .
