What is evolution (there are 5) -natural selection -sexual selection What is a species -evolution doesn’t neccesarly work on indidivudals, it works on populations, on species, they are what evolve -what is a species – a group of creatures which breed together and produce viable and fertile offspring ----in other words - a group of indivuduals that have viable offspring (not just offspring, but offspring that are able to survive and also reproduce)  species can be quite similar in appreaces (deer) or quite different (dogs)  may all live in one part of the world (polar bears) or in many parts of the world (right wales)  share behavrorial traits relating to social groups, food preferences, and reproductive strategies. History of orginins - ***important point in this class - the concept that the forces that acted on the planet 1
