Document Summary

Distance of earth to the center of sun. Was a challenge of the astronomers of the 1800. Uh oh: was all measured with some accuracy by two transits of venus in 1874 and 1882, via careful measurement+timing, distance was computed, next best measurement made in 1960"s. 4 with a curve on top to left, not attached at top. Mu , or sideways wang with ring at bottom. 30. 0: we know what"s there, others have looked there before, have invented coordinate system to help us look in same place repeatedly. Ascension: declination +/- degrees, right ascension hrs/mins. In the above image, the green and blue lines are lines of right ascension and declination. The coordinate system is possible because, as the image shows, the celestial sphere does not rotate along with earth, but does revolve around the sun in sync with earth.
