Document Summary

Griffith"s experiment: conclusion: the nonvirulent strain had somehow picked up information from the dead virulent bacteria and become transformed to the virulent strain itself, therefore causing both the disease. & the death: griffith concluded that some type of molecule in the killed debris carried the genetic information for virule(cid:374)(cid:272)e (cid:894) (cid:271)ut he did(cid:374)"t ide(cid:374)tify the (cid:373)ole(cid:272)ule(cid:895). Avery macleod & mccarty"s experiment: they picked up griffith"s experiment, mixed heat killed virulent bacteria (blue flask), but they wouldn"t just mix it like what griffith did, they would treat virulent bacteria with variety of enzyme first (ex. If this doesn"t change to the virulent strain, there"s something fundamentally wrong with your experiment set up & all the results don"t mean anything because the control didn"t work. ) Dna = deoxyribonucleic acid: the structure of dna allows it to store and transmit genetic information. -> need to make copies of dna = replication.
