BIOA01 chapter 23
PROCESS OF EVOLUTION
Origin of species lays out 2 processes
Decent w modification:
Divergence from common ancestors: have similar physical conditions to people from mainland
but slightly different environment and species characteristics
AFTER THE ORIGIN
- He kept publishing
- First to write about sexual selection
- World expert in many areas
PLANT POLLINATION
- One cool observation was that he discovered a plant which required pollination all the
way to the bottom of the plant
- So there must be an insect which can pollinate such a plant
- After his death, a sphinx moth was discovered which is able to pollinate these plants
EVOLUTION IS JUST A THEORY, NOT A FACT
- In science, a theory is very different than how we casually use this word
- It is a well-established/supported/documented explanation
THEORIES AND LAWS
Law of gravity: if u drop something, it will fall to ground.
Theory of gravity is DIFFERENT
**LAWS DESCRIBE, THEORIES EXPLAIN**
EVOLUTON
- Things evolve
- Happens gradually
- Speciation occurs
- Common ancestor
- Natural selection
FINCHES
- They had different beak size and Darwin also noticed that they eat different things
- He wondered if there was a connection
- Just like how all plyers (tool box) have different shapes depending on what theyre
meant for
