Sliding clamp: protein fold that serves as a processivity-promoting factor in dna replication. The primosome consists of a molecule of primase and helicase. Together, they act to unwind the double helix and lay down a short. Synthesis on the lagging strand is discontinuous and a long polymer is generated by ligation of individual okazaki fragments. The replisome consists of two dna polymerase iii molecules which act coordinately to synthesize both the leading & lagging strands.
