Document Summary

Lec 17: cell cycle iii: biochemical regulation of mitosis. Proteasome: a protein complex in cells containing proteases; it breaks down proteins that have been tagged by ubiquitin. Ubiquitin: a compound found in living cells that plays a role in the degradation of defective and super uous proteins. Cohesin: cohesin is a protein complex that regulates the separation of sister chromatids during cell division, either mitosis or meiosis. Cohesins hold sister chromatids together after dna replication until anaphase when removal of cohesin leads to separation of sister chromatids. Securin: securin is a protein involved in control of the metaphase-anaphase transition and anaphase onset. Contractile ring: the mechanical agent of cytokinesis, made of actin micro laments. It is located in the cortical cytoplasm and provides the necessary force to split a single cell into two cells. Phragmoplast: the phragmoplast is a plant cell speci c structure that forms during late cytokinesis.
