BIOB11H3 Lecture Notes - Lecture 15: Nitrogenous Base, Covalent Bond, Tail Call
Document Summary
Telomere hybridization: ends = yellow, linear dsdna = problem end replication problem. 5" ends, gradually reduce chromosome size (telomere) if replication continues, if you run out of the telomere = run out of genes that are critical for survival = 2nd problem. As we age, telomeres get shorter and shorter. Chromosomes = loser since it can be sheered off. Resulting daughter cells if viable may not have all genes necessary for biochemical processes. Cancer arises not at the immortalized stage but anywhere along this process. Most cells do not express telomerase, but those that do have a higher chance of becoming cancerous. Exonuclease activity = take synthesis direction and turn that same direction into destroying the dna (removes rna primer and uses synthesis function to replace that rna with dna = dna polymerase i?) Proofreading function = reading work and erasing to edit (analogy for this process)
