Document Summary

Types of muscle tissue: skeletal and cardia muscles are grouped together as striated muscles. These muscles appear to be striated under light or electron microscope. Smooth muscle: smooth muscle is found in diverse location; its all over the place; in wall of gut and it serves the role of peristalsis (pushing the food you eat along the digestive tract). Its in the wall of blood vessel (arteries, arterioles), in walls of veins and venules. It serves to control the diamtere of the blood vessels so we can constrict and dialate blood vessels by contracting and relaxing the smooth muscle. This has implications on thongs like being able to regulate how much blood flow a particular tissue is receiving or implications in terms of blood pressure. In bronchioles (airway passages); regulate diameter off airways; we constrict our wairways when we are sitting at rest and we will dilate and expand them when we are being more active.
