Document Summary

Gastrulation: early ingrowth, blastopore, protostome intial opening becomes mouth and then anus is second, deuterostome mouth is second hole formed, anus is first. Gastrovascular cavity one hole enter and exit same hole. Flow through gut two hole enter hole and exit hole. Gut structure reflects diet of animal hindgut. Bile salts break large lipid molecule into small globulars -> increase sa. Pancreatic lipase breaks triglycerol into monoglycerides and free fatty acid. Fatty acid and monoglyceride maintain association with bile acid forms lipase only acts on surface of triglycerol micelle"s (small lipids + lipase + bile salts) Micelle"s taken up by small intestine and transported into er to be. Golgi triglyceride packed with lipoprotein and cholesterol into particles synthesized called chylomicrons. Hydrophobic compounds: can simply diffuse through the plasma membrane of gut epithelial cell without any transporters, can be absorbed throughout the gut, major problem for lipids is solubility in the gut lumen, icf and blood.
