Biob51 lec 13 migration, non-random mating & drift: heterozygote inferiority. Drosophilia with compound chromosomes that ~behave like alleles. Initial populations (n=11): freq (c2) ranges from 0. 45 to 0. 65: population genetics prediction: When freq (c2) goes above 0. 5 -> c2 fixed. When freq (c2) goes below 0. 5 -> c2 lost. Two populations have diverged sufficiently that hybrids have low ftness. This may occur at specific loci or across the entire genome. Underdominance & variation in a mammalian speciation gene". Prdm9 = polymorphic gene found in humans and mice. Determines meiotic hotspots" = areas of meiotic recombination: rate and location affected by alleles of prdm9. In mice, males heterozygous at prdm9 are sterile = low fitness. Shown in 2 subspecies of house mice: recently diverged with partial reproductive isolation: mus musculus musculus, mus musculus domesticus. Transfer of alleles from gene pool of one population to gene pool of another population.
