Identifying genetic variants by risk allele frequency and strength of genetic effect (odds ratio) Common variants of alleles that are implicated in common disease gwas are found in 5% of population. Most research focuses on allelic variations that are common within the population. However, under rare cases, certain rare alleles are found in subset of population, that could have high effects size. Rate variants begin to become hard to study, because 1/1000 people have it. Schizophrenia: a group of severe psychiatric disorders in which the normal interpretation of reality is lost. Positive symptoms: behaviours, emotions that are not generally seen in healthy individuals i. e. altered behaviours: hallucinations (visual, hearing, smells, taste or touch, delusions, thought disorders (unusual, dysfunctional way of thinking, disorganized behaviour. Negative symptoms: disruptions in normal emotions and behaviours i. e. lack of normal behaviours: catatonia (lack of motion, muscle rigidity) or repeating certain motions, lack of emotion (pleasure, motivation etc. , lack of social interaction.
