Personality changes usually occur as well: occurs when certain diseases / conditions affect the brain, age related, increases with age, after age 65, prevalence ~doubles. Types of dementia (name depends on the disease that caused dementia): alzheimer disease (ad) Alzheimer"s disease is most common form of dementia (1 in 11 canadians > Inability to form new memories: memory loss / changes (forgetfulness, difficulty performing familiar tasks / routine chores, mood changes, motor deficiencies (slowness, rigidity, tremors etc. ) Reading / speaking / writing deficits (loss of communication skills) Neurodegeneration occurs in: amygdala, hippocampus and areas around hippocampus.
