Document Summary

Gram staining allows us to know the difference between gram negative and gram positive. The main function of cell wall is to resist hydrostatic pressure that builds u in the cell. The cytoplasm contains many proteins, ions and molecules, the bacterial cell is found in hypertonic environment. So, there is more solute inside the cell to the outside. Water will low into he cells due to the osmosis. Remember it goes form low to high concentration. The bacterial cell will have increase hydrostatic pressure because it will have lots of water in it. If they did not have this cell wall and more water keeps coming into the cell, then it will burst. The cell wall of bacterial cell withstands hydrostatic pressure inside the cell. The cell wall is made up of peptidoglycan which is a sugar molecule with peptides. Each disaccharide has many amino acids which is connected to an adjacent sugar.
