Document Summary

Two major cellular compartments in eukaryotic cells: nucleus. Mrna transcript contains intron + exon sequencing. Rna slicing to remove intron sequences and join exons together. Before messages can be moved out has to be polyadenylated for messages to move from the nucleus to the cytoplasm. Differential gene expression turning on/off genes: cytoplasm. Site of protein synthesis and protein organization making proteins that stay within cells and proteins exported out of cell. Messages come out of nucleus and translated into proteins in the cytoplasm. Location of cytoplasmic organelles performs specific functions, e. g. mitochondria energy production, golgi apparatus export, plants chloroplasts. Evidence of cellular differentiation at morphological and biochemical level. Cytoplasm and cell membrane area can change morphology in cell differentiation. Bc cytoplasm is not just site of synthesis site where proteins are organized into diff structures enzymes and structural proteins that give cell specific shape.
