Document Summary

Double peak in qrs, for 1 normal contraction and a delayed contraction which is indicative of left depolarization. Any abnormality that happens in the atria is not as bad as what happens in the ventricles. Most of the filling in the ventricles is passive, we don"t rely on atria contraction to fill in the ventricles. Atrial fibrillation is when the atria are not contracting properly, its not as serious because you still have waves of depolarization. It isn"t a critical emergency because the ventricles are still pumping blood. Happens because some cardiac cells come out of refractory period and are stimulated. Refractory period is the period after depolarization, when the fibre can not be stimulated for a brief period of time. Another stimulation that comes along can not cause depolarization and contraction again, the channels can no longer respond to stimulus. In a re-entry circuit, there is some form of abnormality (disease) leads to a current block.
