Document Summary

Bioc34 lecture 2 (detailed notes are on blackboard) Arrhythmia caused below the bundle of his can be dangerous. Wpw: wolf parkinson"s white syndrome, extra conduction pathway between the atria and ventricles, where electrical activity can pass. Hypertrophy is an increase in muscle mass of the heart, losing elasticity and ability to contract. A normal ecg trace consists of 3 major components: a p wave, qrs complex, and a t wave. Qrs complex: q wave is a small negative deflection, represents the depolarization of the. P wave is atrial depolarization, qrs wave is ventricular depolarization, and t wave is repolarization of the ventricles. U wave is very rare (not known what is causing it) All 6 leads record electrical activity that are in the frontal plane of the chest. Chest leads help to look at the activity of the heart in a transverse plane, through the chest. Can also look at various time segments in the ecg trace to look at.
