Document Summary

Applies to all mammals and most vertebrae species. Pontine resp group which controls termination of inspiratoin. Fish also have central resp sites, but the anatomical detail is not nearly as much as mammals. We don"t know it in as much detail as in mammals. Peripheral chemoreceptor in arterial blood they are focuses on in fish. In general in mammal and other vertebrates, o2 sensing is done by peripheral chemoreceptors, which is carotid body in mammals and birds, and carotid labyrinth in amphibians. Pc monitor o2 in blood, in mamals and birds its c cr. Central chemoreceptor don"t play a role in water breathing fish, water breathing fish don"t have ccr. Co2 can stimulate both pc and cc, we can have direct stimulation of cc and pc by co2. Pcr are not as imp in monitoring co2 in mammals and birds, but co2 do play a role in sensitivity of these cr to o2 levels.
