Document Summary

Have to increase metabolic rate to keep body temp constant below tnz. Below tnz, metabolic rate becomes a function of ambient temperature. This relationship is occurring in normal euthermic animals. This relationship does not apply to hibernators. In them, metabolic rate is not a function of ambient temperature, its determined by something else. The mr required for thermoregulation is reduced. In summer it requires higher mr to maintain constant body temp. Bc insulation is greater in winter, you can themoregulate with a lower mr. For any given temp, mr is lower in winter than in summer. Allow animals to live in colder temp. Some animals can undergo acclimitasation of peak mr. No diff between summer and winter curves. These animals have increased their ability to have higher mr, allows to produce more m heat and allows to thermoregulate at colder temp compared to their warmer acclimatised counterpart.
