Document Summary

Virus particle (virion) consists of a nucleic acid genome enclosed in a protein coat (capsid) Viruses reproduce by entering host cell and directing cellular machinery to make new particles of same kind. Nonliving but they can still infect cells and make copies of themselves. They do that by infecting a cell and taking over their reproduction mechanism. Turning off the cell"s self- replication and taking control over the transcription and translation mechanism. The only reason is to make more viruses by taking over the cell. Note: the viruses" nucleic acid can be rna or dna. Protein subunits assemble in rodlike spiral around the genome. Common form of plant viruses e. g. tobacco mosaic virus. The nucleic acid is in the middle (in this case rna single stranded molecule)coiled up in the middle and around are the protein subunits of the coat and it encloses the rna to keep it safe from being degraded. This is a classic type in plants viruses.
