Document Summary

There are three types of hormone interactions: synergism. Effects of combined hormones > the summed effects of individual hormones. E. g. epinephrine and glucagon are synergistic hormones: permissiveness. Need second hormone to get full expression. E. g. thyroid hormone is considered to have a permissive effect on sexual maturation; both reproductive hormones and adequate thyroid hormone need to be present for a normal development of reproductive system: antagonism. E. g. glucagon opposes insulin; glucagon accelerates the conversion of glycogen into glucose when blood sugar levels are low, while insulin is secreted when glucose/blood sugar levels are high. Processing of sensory stimuli; stimuli processing of the following senses is usually conscious: N special senses: vision, hearing, taste, smell, equilibrium. Sensory regions in the brain c primary somatosensory cortex: somesthetic sensations and proprioception, sensory information from skin, musculoskeletal system, viscera and taste buds, located in the parietal lobe c sensory association areas.
