Longest and greatest literary composition written in cuneiform akkadian. Began as separate stories, many fragments have been found at various sites and in museums. Each time period/area has its own version to fit the context of the area/period. In hammurabi"s law code, details penalties for deaths that the bull causes. Gilgamesh is a bully, harasses men and rapes women. Aruru creates a primitive man named enkidu to rival gilgamesh. Enkidu realizes he is a man when he has the sexual encounter with shamhat. She tells him to be friends with gilgamesh. Gilgamesh had a dream that he would meet a friend. Enlil orders a monster to protect the cedar forests. Gilgamesh wants to fight the monster and enkidu says okay. They go to elders who tell them not to go. Eventually they win them over and tell gilgamesh to let enkidu to lead, go to gilgamesh"s mom who prays for them.
