Document Summary

Egypt stretches from the mediterranean to the 2nd cataract. Kmt: refers to the fertile black nile floodplain soil. Lower egypt is the delta and is very vegetated. The nile flows from the south to the north. Originates in the mountains of ethiopia at lake victoria and lake tanna. Source of the white and blue niles. The white nile is constantly fed by lake victoria and other lakes in the african lake region. The blue nile and atbara are seasonal (july-october peak). They"re fed by the indian ocean that hits the ethiopian highlands in the summer. Rivers are the source of annual flooding in the nile when they combine with waters of the while nile. Akhet: is a regular and predictable period of inundation (august - november). Rains in ethiopia cause rivers to swell and flood down to egypt. The nile rises and brings fertile, black silts. Fine sediments deposited over the outer floodplains.
