Document Summary

Eesa07h3 f: lecture 4 - water pollution. (october 3rd, 2016) Water pollution: physical or chemical change in water that adversely affects the health of humans or other organisms. Poor water quality degrades aquatic ecosystems and limits human uses of water. Pollutant flux: the amount of a pollutant moving past a point per unit time. Yield: it is the average amount of a pollutant flushed by each unit of land over a course of a year. We normalize the flux by its watershed area through calculating a yield. Event mean concentration (emc): the total flux of a pollutant over the course of an event divided by the total flow of water over the course of an event. Used for when concentrations of a pollutant vary over time. Wastewater from drains, sewers, as well as polluted runoff from the street. Despite the dangers, it is considered to be very nutrient rich. Figure 1: 8 different types of water pollution.
