Childrens environmental health: different exposure patterns b/w children and adults. Limited diet of children: behavior unique to children, how and where children spend their time. Limited diet of children: 3-4 times more food in proportion to their body size than adults, drink more water relative to their body weight, fewer types of food. Infectious agents: participation in certain athletics and/or risky activities. How and where children spend their time: spend most of their time indoors, crawling and playing on the floor, playing on grass. Impact of short stature: breathing zone of adults is 4-6 feet above floor ground, for children it is lower. Childrens environmental health: physiological differences b/w adults and children. Lec 11 mar 28: higher metabolic rate, more active than adults, dermal absorption. Higher ratio of skin surface area to body weight than adults. Skin is more permeable: gastrointestinal absorption.
