Reconstruction era: 1865-1877 north states installed military dictatorships in southern states imposed new way of doing things which afforded all black men right to vote. 1890: jim crow era, separate but equal" - schools, trains, educations, etc was much worse 13th amendment not obstructed if segregation still gave same opportunities. 1954: brown vs board of education, end of legal segregation ppl sued board of education. b/c fewer black schools they got worse textbooks and poor conditions. W/o police officers willing to arrest ppl for breaking these laws you couldn"t impose it on ppl. Participated in nashville sit-ins, freedom rides, march on washington, selma to montgomery.
