Document Summary

In the introduction to they say/i say : the moves that matter in academic. Writing, gerald graff and cathy birkenstein provide templates designed to improve structure of essay writing. Specifically graff and birkenstein argue that types of writing templates they offer must include creativity. As the authors themselves put it, putting in your oar. although some people believe that the templates may be skeptical, graff and birkenstein insist that such notion undermines creativity. In sum, then, their view is that creativity is one of the main keys to essay writing. In my view, the types of templates that the authors recommend are plausible. For instance, they encourage established patterns and structures. In addition, templates do not dictate the content of what you say, some might object, of course on the grounds that creativity and originality lie not on the avoidance of established forms. Yet i would argue that imagination should come in play.
