Lec 6 Radiation and Human Health: Long time ago pple too were exposed to radiation because of natural radiation. We cannot control this background radiation but we can tolerate it. Man-made radiation comes from almost every man made electronic product.good thing- we can control this type of radiation and try to reduce it as much as possible. Radon biggest potion of radiation. Its radio active gass can come out from watershower All radiation, 2 groups IONIZED AND NON_IONIZED IONIZED- high energy and short wavelength-can break chemical bonds, damage DNA, strip electrons from atoms NoN-IONIZED we now worry about it recently like microwaves, tv waves, cell phones esp. Coz we dont know the long time effects. IONIZED RADIATION: look at slide: alpha beta and gamma rays are diff and have diff energies.
