Micromegas lived on one of the planets orbiting the star sirius. Sirius is the brightest star in the night sky. He was a man of great intelligence. Had 1000 senses and a potential lifespan of 100,000 years. Micromegas was banished for writing a book about insects in his world that were too small to be seen (30 m tall). Once banished he travels the universe to build his intellect, where he makes a friend named sirian in saturn. Sirian and micromegas travel to earth, where they conclude there is no visible life after. Micromegas took a diamond and used it as a microscope to glance at earth. Through the microscope the saturnian was able to see a whale in the baltic sea. Sirian was convinced that the earth was inhabited, but assumed it was only by whales. The saturnian laughed at the excessive smallness of our globe.
