What is morphosyntax? the intersection of morphology and syntax. Morphology = structure of words: prefixes, suffixes syntax is the structure of sentences. Verb phrase - tense, mood and aspect (tma) English and french are mainly languages that focus on tense but they consider mood and aspect to be important as well. When situation takes place tend to think of it as past, present and future grammaticalization of time reference three delimitations: before now, now, after now = past, present, future. We think in this way because this is how our languages work. Vive la france: indicative (factual, positive statements): i am happy, conditional (would, could, should): i could go, je pourrais y aller hypothetical (would, could, should) Aspect how the action/state is envisaged or seen as happening/occurring. Most common distinction: perfective (completed action that takes place at a particular point in time, complete, permanent, simple, etc. )
