Maps, when understood, can be used to unravel the capitalism behind oil. It can be used to explain how maps were manipulated to benefit the oil companies, but also explain the negative environmental effects as well. Maps are powerful tools that are were utilized as weapons in the days of imperialism and reconnaissance period. In the past, they are seen as knowledge which is seen as power. This is interesting because only a small group of intellects had access to maps, limiting the control of power.
