Its impacts and affects are undisputed: bounded physical spaces and/or powerful ideas of sameness or connection. Community whe we hear it its usually positive. Chicago school (of sociology) developed ideas of urban ecology and social ecology. Came up with the ideas of natural communities premised on the grouping of plants and animals that can be found in nature. Somewhat akin to environmental determinism , tried to explain social phenomenon as natural biological process. Critics found it did not do a good job explaining complex human relations especially in urban settings. Legacy of chicago school- community as neighbourhood. We have started to look at a network approach. W/ rise of social media, shape of communities us changing dramatically community may not be a big block. November 3, 2015 communities have provide players for social changes voice to be heard awareness for groups.
