Document Summary

Review from lecture 2/3- he did(cid:374)(cid:859)t fi(cid:374)ish lecture 3 last class. Place is constructed out of a number of processes and relations that constitute the meaning and physicality of a given locale. More narrowly focused on a specific location, albeit with a recognition of the broad relations that constitute that location. Space is broader concept than place, which tends to focus on locations. There is spatiality to all of our activity. Absolute space: fixed, mathematical, and pre- and post- dates human activity. Relational space: much like critical perspective on place, relational space is contitued out a range of processes. Imperialism (is more taking them over but it can be more indirect (economic, military) Colonialism (is fundamentally about establishing territory taking over a space and people) And imperialism represent two foundational global processes. Multiple geographical histories inform the making of present day toronto: settler community, indigenous community.
