There as a getting rid of corruption page: @ one pt. the new mayors that got elected they would fire all the existing ppl and hire their supporters. A lot of this was civil society groups: they educated ppl about priorities. There was no free education, playgrounds, community centers in the big cities. They idea was to have healthy children: they needed to run around and not be in the streets as there were more and more cars. Now there is a law where 3-5% of the land needs to be made into a playground. Central park: was a model of how to make a big, semi natural green area park, groomed nature. Riverside park: use the local topography and design around them and not bulldoze over the land. There were streetcars but they were very expensive.
