Republic: traditional date of foundation of rome was in 753 bc. Rome was then a small settlement founded by romulus. Etruscans had their own distinct culture, but by the 8th-7th centuries they were also being influenced by greek culture. Greeks were settling in south italy & trading: the etruscans adopted a form of the euboean greek alphabet in the 8th c (and would later pass this on to the romans). They adopted and adapted greek myths & heroes. They admired collected and imitated greek pottery styles: traditionally, rome was ruled by the etruscan kings in 6th century. Rome became a civilised city: 510 bc rome expelled the kings. A symbolic event like the overthrowing of tyranny in greek cities 6th c bc. They founded the roman republic (again no primary evidence, relying on later literature) Between 3rd & 1st centuries bc the roman republic acquired a huge empire by conquering other territories and kingdoms.
