James ii in 1686 merged five separate colonies massachusetts, new hampshire, connecticut, rhode island and plymouth into the dominion of new england (later adding new york and the jerseys) The glorious revolution in england and america, 1688-1689. Glorious revolution created a limit monarchy as defined by england"s bill of rights in 1689. Monarch promised to summon parliament annually, to sign its bills, and to respect civil liberties.
