Miasma (foul air, poisonous air) is what caused diseases. Miasma was caused spontaneously as is some disease that go on now. Until the 1800"s the miasmatic causation of disease was unshakable. The discovery and understand of pathogen that attack the body and because disease created a paradigm shift where people no longer accepted the miasma cause of disease. Cartesian dualism is the separation of the mind from the body and thinking that the mind is superior to the body. The men are superior to women in this case cause the men are of the mind while the women are of the body.
