Principles of health promotion: focus on upstream approaches: focus on addressing root causes of poor health, addressing disease before it starts, see primary and primordial levels of prevention, don"t blame the victim: how social and economic environment limits. However, there is conflict over what constitutes evidence. Research for health promotion and clinical trials use different methods and theoretical foundations: participation and empowerment: focus on increasing people"s control over their lives. One of the key things that health promoters do, is try and get individuals and communities to participate. If you are involved in some sort of community level thing to get the park cleaned up, leads to empowerment. Notion of empowerment, control and autonomy is very connected to western ideologies: equity: addressing health inequities is a huge priority. What is acting as a barrier?
