Document Summary
Quantitative: prevalence among a large population, concepts easily quantified, hypothesis testing. A great deal of quantitative research does not specify a hypothesis beforehand; instead there may simply be a loosely defined set of concerns in relation to which the social researcher collects data. Theory hypothesis research design devise measures of concepts select research sites select research subjects/respondents administer research instruments/collect data process data analyze data findings/conclusions write up findings/conclusions. In cross sectional research using survey research instruments, it involves interviewing the members of the sample with a structured interview schedule ( a list of statements to which the person being interviewed responds) or distributing a self-completion questionnaire. If a measure is not reliable, it cannot be valid. The concern with the generalizability of research findings is particularly strong among quantitative researchers using cross sectional and longitudinal designs. Scientists believe they should be able to replicate one another"s research.
