Assign responses to different categories: gender, marital status, postal code, university major, student id, ordinal scale. Starts at the lowest and ends at the highest. Intervals of equal length represent equal differences in the characteristics. Zero, does not signify absence of a characteristic think temperature. Distribution of cases in the form of a circle. Relative size of slice is proportional to the proportion of cases within that category. Can be used for all levels of measurements. Emphasize the relative importance of particular category to the total. Not good when there are too many categories (5 max) Emphasize frequency of cases in each category relative to the other.
