HLTB22H3 Lecture Notes - Lecture 5: Humoral Immunity, Memory T Cell, Plasma Cell
Document Summary
Recall: acquired immune system: b-cell receptor causes b cells to differentiate into plasma or memory cell. Plasma cell makes antibodies: speci c defense, b lumps and humour immunity, t-cells, features: T-cells and cell-mediated immunity: are part of cell mediated immune response. B cells look for things in blood and lymph; humoural. T cells look for abnormal cells; get info from cells themselves: info tells t cells what to do. E. g. what type of interaction t cell has with cell; if a virus cell is present, it expresses its viral antigen and t cell receptor can bind to it. Cytotoxic and helper t cells: cytotoxic. Bind to mhc 1 (expressed by all body cells: mhc cells bind peptide fragments derived from pathogens and display them on the cell surface for recognition by the appropriate t cells. Express cd8 on cell surface (makes connection between cell and cytotoxic cell more stable) Bind to viral or abnormal antigen: helper t cells.
