Document Summary

We must prevent extremes in temperature, ph, ion concentration and just about everything else or we die: our bodies must maintain internal constancy (homeostasis) while meeting the constantly changing demands of life . External perturbations in homeostasis would be things like increased or decreased environmental temperatures . Internal perturbations in homeostasis include things like the sugar in the food we eat and the by-products of metabolism. We must constantly change to maintain internal consistency so in order stay constant we must be dynamic. The maintenance of homeostasis: there are two means by which we can maintain homeostasis. One way to maintain homeostasis is with positive feedback while other, and much more common, method is with negative feedback: negative feedback requires something to regulate. An effector to move the variable back to normal this effector deprives the system of the stimulus and terminates the feedback loop.
