Document Summary
Descriptive stats that indicate the spread/variety of scores in a distribution. Range- difference between largest and smallest score: only uses extreme scores. Iqr- range of the middle 50% of cases: not affected by outliers, large- large variability, small- small variability. Captures the average distance each score is away from the mean. Numerator- difference between each score and the mean. Square to prevent negative and positive differences from canceling eachother out. Flatter and wider- larger standard deviation, closer to the mean. Taller and less wide- small standard deviation, and mean. Change in one variable is associated with a certain change in another. Theoretical model- a way to describe the relationship between variables. Two ways: descriptive stats for both variables separately, measure association between variables. Different stats for different levels of measurements. Statistical variations are generalizations, and not rules. Correlation- describes the direction and the strength between two variables. (linear relationship: correlation does not equal causation.
