Document Summary

Sustainable development goals: all you need to know. The sustainable development goals (sdgs) are a new, universal set of goals, targets and indicators that un member states will be expected to use to frame their agendas and political policies over the next 15 years. Builds on the previous millennium development goals (mdgs) . We need a new set of goals because the old mdg ideas were too narrow , they failed to consider the root causes of poverty and overlooked gender inequality as well as the holistic nature of development. The goals made no mention of human rights and did not specifically address economic development. The new sdgs were created from the largest consultation program in history which was conducted by the un. There are 17 new goals and are widely accepted by most governments but some governments want the amount of goals to be reduced e. g uk. New sdgs adopted in january 2016 .
