MDSD11H3 Lecture Notes - Lecture 1: Educational Leadership
Document Summary
Educational leadership sets the standards for how schools embrace or neglect their staff and students" diversity. I envision the following traits in a leader who practices effective equity in their role: this is a challenging role that is not suitable for everyone. These affect school dynamics such as staff culture and students" learning experiences. Leaders must be flexible and adapt to the school body"s diverse needs, rather than remaining stagnant. This is because equity and social justice issues are always changing and surfacing according to cultural influences, and leaders must initiate and encourage ongoing conversations to solve these issues. If a leader does not care about these issues, they will not improve or change. This also sets an example for what staff and students should think is important or not as well. Stagnant leaders also implement outdated and ineffective policies rather than prioritize changes in this rapidly evolving culture.
