Document Summary

Online participation (20%): closes every sunday night. Narrow down an area of diversity to examine and analyze for the final assignment. Our white, male, heterosexual professor is in an undeserved place of privilege. Myself, i am a queer, middle eastern woman who is the first in the family to graduate highschool. I am on the complete opposite of that spectrum of privilege. Exclusionary issues are still prevalent in the dominant and systemic culture. Deficit ideologies define and prioritize some knowledge and experiences over others. Be aware of how the system operates, and understand how it rewards some and marginalizes others. Embedded in language, processes, hidden curriculums and practices. Education can be an equalizer if implemented correctly. Alot must still be done to change how we operate. If left unattended, unquestioned, and unchallenged, then our schools will reproduce the same inequalities and inequities in society that we hope they will remove.
