Before a person sent a message with a horse and now one can send messages without transportation. Used to be weeks before you got information and now it is instantaneous. Information becomes an important thing that people centre their lives around. Telegraphy did something that morse did not perceiveit destroyed the prevailing definition of information and in doing so gave a new meaning to public discourse. (p. 88) Before: info about fire in the building will lead students to take action and evacuate. Now: info about entertainment industry that doesn"t directly affect us or incline us to take action. The telegraph introduced a kind of public conversation whose form has startling characteristics: its language was the language of headlinesknowing the facts took a new meaning.
