Document Summary
Sex and the city portrays contemporary women as strong, independent, and comfortable with their sexuality. The four main characters of sex and the city are financially independent and sexually liberated. However, the women are also consistently portrayed as obsessed with their appearance and addicted to shopping. Because it falls back on these stereotypes, the series ultimately fails to present its audience with models of truly empowered women: has clear argument and arguable thesis. However, the movie is in fact still working within a dominant patriarchal ideology of gender relations. I will argue that in the two main female characters - ariel, the mermaid, and ursula, the terrifying sea-witch - the little mermaid depicts two models of female sexuality. Grade: a (minor grammar errors; sophisticated thesis; specific and clear) Each time a source is used in the text, it must be cited in parentheses.
