Document Summary
Bioa02 module 1 lecture 2: tree of life plants. Have the same features such as a waxy cuticle as early as 420 million years ago. Stomata are breathing pores that allow water to go in and out. Lycophytes grow taller than bryophytes because of the presence of vascular tissues. Lycophyte species: clubmosses (400), quillworts (150), spike mosses (700) Ferns did not decompose but they accumulated in vast layers that are now coal deposits. Cluster of sori undergoes meiosis mature sporangium with haploid spores germinating spore prothallium gametophyte fertilization embryo developing sporophyte . Mature leaves of sporophytes have reproductive organs on the lower side of each leaf. Each of these organs are a sorus or if they are in a cluster they are called sori: spores are produced in the sorus, sorus is made of pin heads" that contain individual spores. If the pin head" is mature, then the spores will release.
