MGHB02H3 Lecture Notes - Lecture 1: Convergent Validity, Discriminant Validity, Internal Validity
Document Summary
Hypothesis: the expected relationship between two variables: measures that can take on two or more values ex of variable: temperature, fairness, pay; bonus vs no bonus or staying vs leaving. Independent: variable that predicts or is the cause of variation in a dependent variable. Dependent variable: variable that is expected to vary because of changes to the independent variable. Moderating variable: affects the nature of the relationship between an independent/dependent variable such that the relationship depends on the level of the moderating variable. Mediating variable: variable that intervenes/explains the relationship b/w independent/dependent variable. Good instruments: reliability and validity concerns: make sure conclusions are drawn based on research method, and the validity and reliability of the measures that were used. Reliability: index of the consistency of a participants responses; should be 0. 8 or higher. Test retest reliability: day 1 vs day 10 marks.
